Situated in Butler County, Kentucky, Morgantown is a city with a population of almost 2,400 individuals according to the United States Census Bureau. Morgantown serves as the county seat of Butler County. It is possible that Morgantown was originally named Funkhouser Hill in honor of Christopher Funkhouser, a local landowner who donated 60 acres of land to establish Morgantown as the new county seat of Butler County. Morgantown was incorporated in 1813.
Morgantown is home to many exciting things to see and do. History enthusiasts will enjoy visiting the Confederate-Union Veterans’ Monument located on the grounds of the Butler County Courthouse. This monument is one of only two in the United States that is dedicated to the memory of soldiers who fought on both sides of the Civil War. Another exciting thing to do in Morgantown includes attending the annual Green River Catfish Festival. This festival is held the week of July 4th at Charles Black City Park. The yearly event attracts individuals from all parts of the city to participate in carnival rides, games, and other entertainment.
